Hurricane ravaged Puerto Rico is finally receiving some good news Thursday as President Donald Trump waived shipping restrictions which will help get fuel, water and supplies. White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said in a tweet that Trump “has authorized the Jones Act be waived for Puerto Rico. It will go into effect immediately.”
The waiver of the Jones Act will speed up the delivery of fuel and other critical supplies to Puerto Rico where officials estimate that the island could be without power for six months. There are thousands of containers sitting idle at the ports of San Juan until now.
This couldn’t have come sooner as 3.4 million residents are without electricity, reliable drinking supplies and other basic necessities since the storm hit. Hurricane Maria is the most powerful hurricane to hit Puerto Rico in nearly 90 years and now is the time for American’s and people around the world to step up and help where they can.
